I am a newbie, and I read so many articles to learn, and then I put those learnings into action to get the results. Few things work great, and few don’t.
In the last post, I have shared the ways to generate traffic to your blog which was completely based on my experiments and research. I have mentioned several strategies to boost the blog traffic. Social Media is one of them.
Today’s blog post is focused on traffic generation through Social Media. Yes, there are hundreds of ways out there to generate traffic, but Social Media is one of the best sources of high-quality traffic.
Let’s discuss how you can boost your blog traffic through Social Media.
Let me first clarify that the method we use to generate traffic from Social Media is usually called Social Media Marketing.
Below are the 10 Social Media Marketing strategies to boost your blog traffic:
1. Feed the blog RSS to your Social Profiles
This is my most favorite strategies because you don’t need to put much effort in it. Just use tools like Twitterfeed or Dlvr.it where you have to add the blog’s RSS, and route them to your social profiles.
What actually happens is that whenever you publish an article on your blog, these tools get the feed via RSS and post to the social profiles you have added there as status updates.
So your social profiles are updated with the blog posts you are publishing on the blog without putting any effort. It’s all automated! When the profiles are regularly updated with the blog posts, they likely to get more views. Thus, more traffic to the blog. This idea is very simple yet effective.
2. Put your blog link on your social media profiles
Whether you are managing personal profile or fan page, or brand pages, you should always put a link to your blog there in website section.
Look at the above screenshot of Darren Rowse’s Facebook fan page, where he has blog link twice. You may put at least once so that the audience who follow you on social media may get to know about your blog, and they might click to visit as well.
Now you can look at his Twitter profile too which also includes a link to his blog.
It’s an easy and one-time task that you must do to get new visitors on a regular basis from those social sites.
3. Install Social Sharing button
If you don’t give your users an ease of sharing your blog posts, then they won’t work hard to share them on their profiles.
It’s your duty to make the sharing easier so that they can just click and share in no time. There are many social sharing plugins out there which you can use on your blog such as Digg-Digg, Flare, Addthis, Sharethis, and many more. You can get a big list of social sharing plugins on my friend Atish’s blog.
I have the sharing buttons installed at the beginning and at the last of the blog posts so that my readers can easily share the posts once they finished reading them.
This is a must do task because when some people share your blog posts with their social followers, you get more traffic to your blog.
4. Say thank you to them who Share your blog posts
When the readers share your blog posts, then always reach them to thank them because it builds up a good relationship between you and the readers. You will notice that they will frequently be sharing your posts when you interact with them by saying thank you or something else.
Check out the above screenshot, my blog post was shared on amplifyblog.com by my friend Atish Ranjan, and then it was retweeted by Uttoran, and also got favorited by Atish. So what I did is to reach out and wrote a thank you tweet to both of them.
It’s a good way to appreciate your readers for sharing your blog posts. There is a feel good factor that makes them share more of your blog posts frequently. More sharing means more traffic.
5. Add Follow us/Join us social buttons on your blog
Having the social media profile links linked with follow button can help you get connected with your readers. Most of the times, the audience see your social profiles but not the blog. So when you share the blog posts there, they will get the update even without visiting the blog, and then if they are interested in reading, they will come to the blog as well. So, it can simply generate targeted traffic to the blog.
Therefore, make use of follow us social buttons to make the people get connected with you on social media sites too.
6. Create Fan page on Facebook
If you are still using your personal FB profile to share blog posts, then it’s time to create a fan page for your blog, and connect with your readers through it. It looks better and professional. Try to post interesting stuff related to your niche along with the blog posts to keep your audience interested in your page.
7. Use Stumbleupon, Reddit, Flipboard to get huge traffic
Stumbleupon, Reddit, and Flipboard are a few sites that send immense traffic if you submit interesting stuff to them . So whenever you publish some interesting blog posts, don’t miss to share them on these social media sites.
8. Use high quality attention-grabbing featured images in your blog posts.
Whenever a blog post is shared on social sites, the featured image shows prominently over there. Thus, it’s very important to have an image that can attract more eyeballs. As much interesting the image will be the more clicks you will be able to get on it.
If you are a regular reader of my blog, you must have noticed that I always use one custom designed featured image for every blog post.
9. Make use of Pinterest
I said above that you should use interesting images in your blog posts, right? Now, it will be good to pin them on Pinterest because it is an image-based social site where interesting images get more re-pins & likes, and more clicks as well. It has been a good source of traffic to many blogs that use interesting images.
10. Write Catchy Headlines
Just like the featured image, the headline also shows prominently when the blog posts get shared on social sites. Therefore, using catchy headlines will be great to attract more people for more traffic.
Traffic generation is the most important task for bloggers because when they write with so much of passion, then they should get people to read as well. Traffic is like a reward for their hard work they do for creating content.
