Importance of Blog Commenting

Importance of Blog Commenting

When you write a comment after reading a blog post, it is called blog commenting. Since I have joined the blogosphere, I have learned so many things, but the most enjoyable thing I have learned is blog commenting.

There are so many benefits you get if you do blog commenting on different blogs on a regular basis. As so many benefits are attached to it, it has a great importance in the world of blogging.

Through this blog post, I am going to explore the benefits you get from blog commenting so that you will able to understand it’s importance.

1. Traffic

Traffic is the first thing every blogger wants because they need people to read their content. If there is no traffic on the blog, you might not be able to keep the blog running because sooner or later you must want to cash out your efforts, right? And that is possible only when you have a good amount of traffic on your blog.

When you comment on a blog, your blog link goes with the comment, and thus you get a few hits from the people who want to check out your content.

Here is a basic comment form looks like:

comment form

Once you submit the comment, it looks like this:

comment example

Look at the comment above which I have published recently on a blog. You can see my latest post link was fetched by Commentluv plugin installed on that blog [not all blogs use commentluv], and my name is also hyperlinked.

Now, if someone comes to that page, sees my comment and get interested in my comment luv link as the title shows there, then he will click to visit my blog post.

And I will get one visit. In this ways if you publish ten comments a day, you may generate more than ten hits or more per day. It depends on those blogs’ visitors as well, if more people are interested in your post link, they will visit you.

Currently I am getting around 30 visitors a day from blogs where I have commented, and I believe that it will be doubled soon as I will be reaching to more blogs . Additionally, the number of blog comments was tripled on my blog as compared to earlier.

2. Building Relationships

The best thing of blog commenting is you come to know about new people in your niche, and when you regularly read and comment on their blogs, they start noticing you. Now, they start coming to your blog to read and comment.

Gradually you become friends with them, and that is the beginning of a healthy relationship.

Mind it that the relationships are imperative in blogging.

3. Backlinks

Blog commenting is not an effective way of link building because most of the blogs offer Nofollow link, but there are many blogs that provide dofollow links as well. So when you comment on those blogs, you get backlinks to your blog that help in search rankings too.

4. Learning new things every day

To post a comment you need to read blog posts thoroughly. When you read, you learn something new, right?

I am taking my example here; I am still a newbie but since I have started blogging, I have started reading multiple blog posts every day. Reading is very important for commenting because until you don’t understand the content, it’s tough to write a good comment. This way, I am able to learn so many new things like traffic generation, social media marketing, Internet marketing, WordPress, Plugins, etc. Few months ago I was unaware of these terms, but now I am familiar with these. This all happened because I started reading blog posts to comment on them.

So blog commenting helps you learn new things every day.

5. Clear your doubts for FREE

As I said in the #3 point that you learn so many things by reading the articles, but at times you find problem understanding some topics. In that situation, you may ask your questions via comments that might be later answered by the author.

Remember? in the school days, a home tutor comes to your home to teach you, and you could ask him the problems you face. He must have solved all the problems but in return he used to charge a monthly fee for all this, right?

But when you start learning by blog commenting, you learn for free. Just ask questions in the comments, and get answers.

6. Establish Credibility and Improve visibility

Commenting doesn’t mean just to write a few words or 1-2 lines, and submit rather it means to share your views or ask questions to start a conversation in the comment area.
If you are writing better comments, you will notice that your credibility is getting established gradually. You become a good guy in people’s eyes. More people start trusting you.

Additionally, when you read and comment everywhere, your visibility improves a lot. I have examples of Adrienne Smith and Carol Amato whose comments I can find on all the blogs I visit nowadays.

To be honest, I came to know about them via blog commenting.

Blog commenting is imperative if you want to become a credible blogger of the blogosphere. To me, it’s the second most important task when it comes to blogging. I do it every day, and I enjoy doing it.

You have just come to know the six benefits blog commenting offers, and that is why blog commenting has a great importance in the blogging world.

What do you think of blog commenting?  Is it something you can use in your blogging efforts?  Please leave your comments below!

  1. Hi Linda,

Thanks for sharing these golden information. Most of the new blogger don’t know the importance of commenting. But you explained each and every point.I personally work on this and it improves my visitors and rank as well !!

    Have a great week ahead.

    • Hi Saurabh,

Thank you for stopping by my blog post and leaving such a nice comment as I really do appreciate that.

Blog commenting is a great way to get others back to your site. You need to get CommentLuv for your website. It is a great tool to have because it shows your last post you wrote at the end of your comment. That is the free version. The paid version lets you pick the blog post from your last ten posts that you want others to comment on. It is a very cool tool to have.

Thank you so much for sharing, Saurabh and you have an awesome night and week.

  3. Hey Linda,

Well you know how much I do love blog commenting and for all the reasons you mentioned above.

I love the interaction myself, learning new things, meeting new people and forming new friendships. It also can really help you be seen when you leave genuine, helpful and informative comments. We all have something to add to the conversation I believe even if it’s just our own experiences.

We all started somewhere right and what we share in a comment might help someone else as well. Plus if that person has CommentLuv like you pointed out, our posts will be seen and hopefully it will catch some bloggers eyes and they’ll want to come over and see what we have. It’s a win/win situation in my book.

Thank you for the mention, surprised to see that but always appreciated. Nice to be lumped with Carol, she’s awesome as well.

Great advice Linda and I’m off to share it with my friends. Hope you’re having a wonderful day and you enjoy your week okay.

  5. Hey Linda

I love your post about blog commenting. I have had the chance to meet so many cool and interesting people through commenting. I also learn a lot about a person by the comment they leave.
I always appreciate when someone adds to the conversation with their insights about a particular topics or even disagrees with me. It gives me another point of view.
You obviously know the importance of blog commenting and how to do it the right way. How do you discourage those who leave comments like “Great post. Love it.” or “Cool tips. Thanks.”

It’s obvious that they didn’t bother reading the post that I took time to write! The ultimate insult.

I have a few of those who are maybe just looking for a backlink. I may put a blog comment policy on my website. What are your thoughts about it?

As for people who leave comments like great post, love it or cool tips, thanks, get spammed. I don’t even see those types of comments any more. My web designer put something on my site to prevent those kind of comments. They don’t read your posts they just want to get their link on your post. You don’t need those types of comments on your blog post. I will ask my designer what plugin he used for spam and get back to you on this matter.

Thank you for sharing, Lisa and you have an awesome rest of the week!

I completely agree with you. Blog commenting will bring many benefits for us. I still remember when my early days I entered blogosphere, no one knows who I am. It was a bit sad. 😆

But, I learned from a lot of people and found that blog commenting is important for bloggers. So, I started doing it. 😉

As expected, I get traffic, friends and followers at the same times. I get a lot of followers on Twitter, I even believe I was the only person who has a lot of foreign followers than other people in my city. I am grateful for that. 😀

  8. Great post Linda,
Blog commenting is really one of the best and most effective means of connecting and building solid relationships with fellow bloggers if done well.

However just like every other thing, if you really want to be getting good results from your comments, its important to always have a goal in mind while commenting and all the comments you will be writing should gear towards you achieving that goal of yours.

Finally, its very important that every blogger take blog commenting very serious because i can really open doors.

  9. Hi Linda,

My personal favorite is “building relationships” as you mentioned. Regardless of being a seasoned blogger or a newbie getting to know the world and vice versa, you have to talk with the audience.

People only keep coming back when they feel connected to you at a personal level regardless all the backlinks left behind by a comment.

There is no better backlink than the “connection with the heart” 😉

  11. Hi Linda,

    Great post here.

Interestingly enough, I never started paying attention to blog commenting until I met Adrienne. And it was just through engagement with her that I really saw the true potential of blog commenting.

It’s something I do from time to time, but with so many other projects I’m working on, I have to limit myself to a set amount of hours towards it. Lately, I dedicate 5 hours a week towards it and that it. Could I do more? Sure. But I have things like Kindle book and courses and other projects that take up my time too .. and there’s only so many hours each day.

But, I do agree that blog commenting is good and it can help achieve all of those things you mentioned. Especially building relationships.

    Great post.

    – Andrew

    • Hi Andrew,

Thank you for visiting my blog post and leaving such an awesome comment. I really do appreciate that.

I was the same way. I didn’t know anything about blog commenting till I met Adrienne and she helped me with what blog commenting was all about and how to use it as a marketing tool. She taught me how to build relationships and to help others without expecting anything in return.

Blog commenting takes a lot of time. Being consistent as you are doing is the key to success. 5 hours a week is great. You’re setting goals and following through with them and that is tremendous. It’s the only way we will succeed.

Thank you for sharing, Andrew and you have a wonderful weekend!

  12. Hey Linda,

I’ve come to know the benefits of blog commenting quite well over the years! You have listed the reasons why I find it very beneficial for myself and I know it will be to others. It may be tedious to some, but it well help anyone grow their brand and their blog.

I can remember when I wasn’t getting that much traffic at all. As a matter of fact, I was getting under 1,000 visitors a month. Just by commenting on one more blog a week, and commenting on more blogs with an alexa of under 100,000, I saw my traffic increase over 1,000 visitors/month.

Also I started to learn more and above all build credibility! I started to get more offers as far as being included in roundup posts and doing guest posts which I think everyone should take advantage of.

So yes, blog commenting should never be ignored in my opinion. Networking is key in building a blog or business, and this is the way to do it!

Thanks for the share Linda! Have a great weekend!

  13. Hey Linda,

Absolutely love blog commenting, one of my favorite things to do when am online.

Traffic is surely the primary reason to do blog commenting and being the 1st commentator can increase the traffic by manifolds.

I love connecting with new bloggers and try to build a stronger connection with those whom I know. I actively keep looking for new blogs were I can comment and network. Sites like Kingged, bizsugar etc. helps a lot in this aspect.

Blog commenting does improve visibility and other bloggers come to know about our blog when we leave comments on other active blogs. This is where the comment quality matters most as a barely passable 2 liner comment won’t add any reputation to the commentator, nor will others take much notice.

I love the idea that I get more traffic to my Blogsite when I leave comments. To trigger that sort of visitors I believe that the comment I leave behind must be contain value add content itself, written in an engaging way.

The comment should make people curious and what to know more about – Me – the commenter. That’s when I’ve discovered inbound traffic flows.

Yes, much better than the inbound traffic is the relationships I’ve built over the years with other Bloggers.

  20. Hi Linda,
    I found this informative post’s notification today at and thus this visit here for the first time. Nice to meet you;
Comments are an integral part of blogging!

Yes, as someone said, i too started my blogging journey by commenting on others pages, and only after doing this for some years only i started blogging. In my initial time of internet activity i started reading a lot of stuff and after finishing reading i will have something to say about it and out rightly i post my opinion, in many cases i got brick bats and and in several other cases i got applauds!

The very place we are now in ie Kingged is one of the best example for
comments and commentotors paradise!! I say paradise since this platform gives as much as importance to its members comments! Of course there are few cases where people just say Excellent, goog , great, amazing and yet another common word people use for everything ie ‘Awesome” these types of comments should be avoided and it will not give much meaning to the post or to its writers! Kingged dot com is very strict on this but in some other communities such one word or one line comments are appreciated and welcomed, which is not a good trend at all.

If a person read our post fully he will surely have something to say but in other cases they just leave one word comment and go!

I am so glad to read such a lot of information on blog commenting and its value in your content.

    • Hi Phillip,

Thank you for visiting my blog post and leaving such a wonderful comment as I really do appreciate it. I love Kingged and it is a great community and one of the best out there. I am meeting some of the most amazing people.

By blog commenting, we get to know, like and trust each other and it’s all about people meeting people. Some will love us and some won’t. It’s that simple. Nice to meet you too Phillip and you certainly are allowed to voice your opinion.

We post and comment to give value to others. I want to help as many people as I can and I write my posts in such a manner so everyone can understand. That is my motivation. I am a spiritual person and I believe in the golden rule.

I have come to love blog commenting and think that if someone takes the time to comment on a persons post then we return the favor by commenting on theirs. I don’t believe in one liners either and on my blog they go right to spam. The spammers are getting smarter, they now use CommentLuv on their spammy remarks. This is a new trick they are using and it is working but you can tell by what they share and spam them immediately.

Its been a pleasure to meet you Phillip and thank you for sharing.

You have a wonderful night and weekend ahead!

  21. Thanks for the post

Blog comments can help with the search engine optimization of your website by seriously improving your ranking within the major search engines. Where sometimes webmasters running traditional websites complain about being in the Google Sandbox for months, bloggers often report seeing their results in search engine results just a few days after they activate their blogs and start posting entries.

    • Hi Manisha,

Thank you for stopping by my post and leaving a nice comment. I really do appreciate it.

Blog comments can help search engine optimization as long as we put the keywords in naturally. I am not having any problems with SEO and am glad about that. I am not in the Google Sandbox, thank God. I will take your advice and follow my own guidelines from an article I previously wrote on SEO.

Thank you for sharing Manisha and you have a wonderful weekend!

  22. Hi Linda

Blog commenting has become one of the most effective ways to:

    a) Do off-page SEP

    b) Build relationship with fellow bloggers

    c) Make influencers notice you

    d) Participate in informative debates on your niche topics

    e) Make people heard your voice

    f) Practice to improve your writing skills

    g) Remain the part of your blogging niche community

    h) Create your own blogging community

Therefore one must focus on doing this activity regularly and should not do this just do formality. One needs to comment where he feels it is must to comment otherwise he should have all the liberty to go without commenting.

Thanks a lot for sharing such wonderful post on showing importance of blog commenting.

    Have a great weekend ahead.

    • Hi Mi Muba,

Thank you for stopping by my blog post and leaving such a great comment. I really do appreciate that.

Building relationships with other bloggers is one of the best methods to use. We want people to know, like and trust us and in return we do the same. Some people are just not everyone’s cup of tea. It is all about people meeting people and some we love and some we don’t. If we keep writing good posts and do things to get the influencers attention we are on our way to providing our audience with the very best content. Once we have their attention, we don’t want to loose them.

Your list is a very valuable tool to use while blog commenting. We must be consistent and practice them on a daily basis, not allowing problems to get in our way, while achieving our goals. So, we do need to be clear with our message and keep moving forward.

Thank you for sharing Mi Muba and you have a wonderful weekend!

  23. Hi Linda,
I completely agree with your 5 points and of course, point #2 (Building Relationships) completely blows it out.

The more relationships we create, the more we can get links and traffic from those friends. My blog is where it is today because of blog commenting and I highly recommend it 😉

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend

  24. Hi Linda

Thanks for your helpful and instructive post on blog commenting

As a newbie to blog commenting I am learning every day how helpful it is and already I can the tiny shoots of connectivity coming from blogging mavens like Adrienne Smith.

I really like your last point: Establish Credibility and Improve Visibility. It sure does make sense to be commenting on many blogs. Sooner or later people start to notice you, they see you’re a serious player, and will then check you out.

    I get it!

    Thanks again

    • Hi Mark,

Always nice to see you here and I really do appreciate your comment.

Thank you for all the wonderful things you shared about me and that I should be teaching. This week for the first time I was asked to do two guest postings. I still feel like I am new. I will begin doing them in 2016 when I will be ready. I am grateful for your confidence in me.

Your doing a heck of a lot of new things with your blog too. Maybe we should make a pact that 2016 is going to be the year for even more growth. Replying to comments on at least 5 blog posts a day from Monday to Friday and take the weekends off. Sounds like a great plan and I learned that from Adrienne Smith. I am always trying to reply on the commentLuv links and I’m catching up today and it’s a weekend. By 2016 I will have it under control and so will you. I have a lot of confidence in you.

Thank you for sharing, Mark and you have an awesome weekend.
